Héctor Rolando Xol Choc (Aj Chab’in) is a Q’eqchi’ Maya researcher, linguist, writer, and educator from Guatemala, specializing in Maya linguistics, Indigenous education, and Maya knowledge systems. He received formal training in Maya Linguistics and Education for Maya Peoples, and has been actively involved in the research, preservation, and promotion of Guatemalan Maya languages since 1997.


In addition to his academic work, he served as a member of his community’s Maya K’iche’ leadership in 2017, contributing to cultural and linguistic advocacy at the community level. As a university professor, Héctor Rolando Xol Choc teaches courses in Maya Thought, Sociolinguistics, Indigenous Worldviews of Guatemala, and Education for Indigenous Peoples.


He has also worked as a linguist and epigrapher with the Proyecto Uaxactún in Flores, Petén, Guatemala, focusing on Maya inscriptions and historical linguistics. He is the author of numerous academic articles and books on Maya knowledge and culture, and has recently begun writing b’ich Q’eqchi’ (Q’eqchi’ Maya poetry), further contributing to contemporary Indigenous literature.
